Tailend Moss – April

Tailend Moss – April

a few projects around the home meant that I wasn’t able to visit the moss until the end of the Month which turned out to be quite beneficial as I was rewarded with some really nice sunny weather at the end of April. The nice weather had meant that the pools under some of the trees had started to dry out a little. The frogs have all gone now of course and the air was filled with the sound of birdsong.

The Hazel have long lost their catkins and are now bursting into leaf along with the Hawthorns. Some others are lacking a bit behind but those which tend to flower first such as Blackthorn are now showing and Goat Willow is starting to open.

I only saw one of the deer today, a female, which as usual had seen me first so went bounding along the border of the reserve. At the time of visiting the ponds were strangely lacking in bird life.

It’ll soon be May which should bring a rise in temperatures so I look forward to revisiting then.
