When looking for Oryx, it is one of the classic shots to get them atop a sand dune.
This image is again another that means a lot to me because of the background story to get the image.
I had been returning from a trip to Deadvlei when I saw these two Oryx browsing at the bottom of the sand dune. I left my car at the roadside and carefully took a curved path to keep myself far enough away from them and to keep my scent from them as well. It started to become obvious that they were going to start heading up the dune. I kept a safe distance while trying to close in to get the image. It should be said that there are no apex predators in this part of the desert except Leopards so I felt quite safe.
Just as they got to the top of the dune, one of them turned around to see me. I got a few shots in before they disappeared over the other side of the dune.
Oryx are large antelope and are also known as Gemsbok in Afrikaans.
