The signs of Spring are certainly arriving now. I am writing this just after mid March and this morning’s walk found the first batch of frog’s arriving in the main pond. Some of the smaller ponds hidden in the trees have yet to warm up enough to entice them out. Buds are starting to break open on many of the trees and shrubs and the early morning birdsong is becoming much louder.

I had a nice close up encounter with one of the deer a couple of weeks ago and the sound of oyster-catchers overhead really heralded spring.

So far this year I have only been able to identify two distinct deer, a male and a female. Last year there were at least seven identifiable individuals. I dislike the idea of naming wild animals as it seems to take away the wildness so I won’t succumb to that.

The number of trees and bushes starting to bud is on the rise.
